Uru paanar, a musical collective of seven virtuosos—Tharun Sekar, Pravekha Ravichandran, Sivasubramanian, Keerthirathan, Vishwa Bharath, Vikram and Suraj—proudly stands as a beacon of cultural fusion, seamlessly blending contemporary rhythms with the soul-stirring echoes of traditional instruments. Rooted in the rich tapestry of their heritage, the band draws inspiration from the profound depths of Sangam literature and the ancient structural canons of Tholkaapiyam, creating a sonic landscape that transcends time, space, and the diverse emotions of their native land. At the heart of Uruppaanar's ethos lies the Uru Custom-made Instruments initiative, spearheaded by the illustrious Tharun Sekar, a musician and master luthier dedicated to resurrecting Sangam-era instruments. From the rare and melodious yazh harp to the percussive symphony of the Kudamuzha born from terracotta and brass pots, Uru Paanar's revivalist spirit knows no bounds. Their performances are not just concerts; they are aural voyages paying homage to the universal language of music, breathing new life into ancient Tamil panns—a sophisticated musical scale system mirroring the landscapes and times of day described in Tholkaapiyam. With each captivating performance, Uru Paanar solidifies their reputation as innovators and custodians of a musical legacy that has intricately shaped the cultural contours of Tamil Nadu and the global south. The band's repertoire comprises indigenous instruments such as Yazh, Kudamuzha, Urumi, Parai, Flute, Pepa, and Sangu.

Uru Paanar is available for bookings for a variety of events, including weddings, cultural festivals, and private gatherings. We are committed to bringing our unique musical experience to your special occasions, offering a memorable and culturally rich performance that will enchant your guests.
